Description

We are pleased to offer for your consideration this pristine Hamilton Pocket Watch Grade 925 circa 1902. The Gentleman’s Dress Pocket Watch of the day. Depending on the source this may or may not be listed as “railroad grade”, very few railways would reject this pocket watch in 1902. With over 500 independent railroad companies some operating as little as 80 miles of track, this is a better timepiece than most pocket watches in service. The Hamilton Watch Company named the different grades on an odd even basis. So the 925 would be the Hunter Case version and the Open Face 924, the same grade movement only in the Hunter Case configuration winding at the 3:00 position as opposed to the open face winding at the 12 position. The Grade 925 was made in a limited production of only 71,000 in total. After the turn of the century the open face pocket watch became the “railroad standard” and far fewer Hunter Case Pocket Watches like this 925 were manufactured making for a highly desired classic pocket watch. We have excellent example of the sparse Hamilton Grade 925 housed in this fine Rose Gold Fill Hunter Case. This fine pocket watch is in excellent condition and a wonderful configuration with the Grade 925 Movement, pristine Hamilton Roman Numeral Dial, original Spade/Spade Railroad Hands housed in the Crown Case Company Rose Gold Fill Case. The front cover opens with a push down on the crown to display the dial and the back has an inside dust cover that protects the movement and the back cover, we have a triple hinge Gold Fill Case in excellent condition. I so hope the many pictures and extreme magnification helps in the description.

The fine dial was made for “Krall Bros. Tyndall S.D.” written out in the classic handwritten font. This fine dial has a raised outer circumference with the classic Hamilton Roman numerals and every 5-minute marker highlighted in red Arabic numerals with the Railroad Track design around the outer the circumference. Then we have the recessed sub chapter for the second hand. These ornate dials where made using 2 Copper Plates soldiered together, and then baked with many layers of Silica giving the dial the deep rich porcelain finish. The Hamilton 925 Movement is housed in a beautiful antique Crown Watch Case Company Hunter Case, highly desired. This case is in excellent condition and functions, as it should. These antique cases are referred to as triple hinge cases. We have the 2 outer covers (front and back) and then the dust cover to protect the movement. This is a beautifully case without personal engraving and showing less than normal pocket wear and no abuse. These Hunter Cases are very popular and most did not survive the last 113 years like this case has. These cases did not last due to the Coin Silver, Gold or Gold Fill being to soft for the case springs made of steel, the steel case springs that latch tend to wear through, so we are pleased to have this fine offering for your consideration. This fine Hamilton 925 Pocket Watch is all original and ready for daily wear or as a wonderful addition to any collection.
