Rare Elgin Veritas Railroad Grade 374 with 21 Jewels and Up/Down Wind Indicator
This rare Elgin grade 374 is a desired variation of the Father Time railroad grade pocket watches. It’s one of Elgin’s, top-of-the-line railroad grade offerings. These wonderful timepieces were produced in very low numbers, with a total production of only 11,000. This piece was manufactured in 1917 and with a hundred years under its belt, this pocket watch is truly a rare find.
Beyond the limited production runs, the horological value of this watch is further enhanced with the addition of the Up/Down wind indicator. This wind indicator functioned as a safeguard, it allowed a railroad worker to keep track of how many hours of mainspring had been expended to help prevent the chance of an unexpected stopping of the watch while in railroad service.
The size 16 movement features a rare 21 jewel, nickel finish movement, housed in a stunning yellow gold fill case. The dial is in pristine condition and its dazzling white enamel draws a strong contrast with the heavy ink saturation of its indices and Arabic numerals.
This rare example of early 20th century Elgin railroad grade pocket watches makes it an excellent cornerstone for your collection. It displays beautifully and its historical and horological value makes it an excellent family heirloom for generations to come.
