Description

We pleased to offer for your consideration in this antique pocket watch manufactured by the Burlington Watch Company circa 1923. The Burlington Watch Co. was the mail order division of the Illinois Watch Company and known for producing beautiful high-grade pocket watches. This railroad grade pocket watch is size 16 measuring 2 inches in diameter the most popular of sizes. This Burlington has a wonderful configuration with 21 Jewel movement lever set movement, original Philadelphia Case Company Case, double sunk porcelain dial and highlighted with beautifully heat treat blued steel Breguet Moon style hands. The porcelain dal does have some craze lines, yet the pocket watch still shows beautifully. The Illinois/Burlington Grade 107 Movement has a beautiful antique 3 finger bridge design that shows many of the moving gears and parts. This movement is in excellent condition without corrosion or reckless jewelers tool marks. I so hope the pictures with the extreme magnification help in the description of this fine Burlington Pocket Watch.

This antique Burlington Pocket Watch is faced with a beautiful double sunk porcelain dial. These fine dials were made using three Copper plates soldered together and then baked with many layers of Silica giving the dial the deep rich porcelain finish. This is also what made these dials so fragile and after years of service on the rails many suffered from these craze lines. The dial has the classic bold Arabic numerals as required by the railroad companies and the classic Railroad Track design around the outer circumference. Then we have the sunken center chapter for the Burlington logo with a sunken sub chapter for the second hand. The dial does have craze lines as mentioned and pictured, this is the only issue and this timepiece, and the pocket watch still shows beautifully. This fine dial is highlighted with beautifully heat-treated blued steel Breguet Open Moon Hands, a nice custom add on. This classic Burlington Railroad Pocket Watch again shows beautifully and is sure to be appreciated for generations to come.

This fine Burlington Grade 107 Model 9 Movement is lever set and stem wound. This movement is in excellent condition without reckless jeweler’s tool marks or corrosion. The movement is referred to as a 3 Finger Movement and is unique in that you can see many of the working gears and parts and not typical in earlier full plate or later ¾ plate movements. This fine movement is designed with a gold center wheel and train, high grade micrometer regulator, adjusted too positions and temperature, gold balance weights with raised gold jewel cup settings. Truly a fine high-grade movement manufactured by the Illinois Watch Company, one of the leading manufactures. The Burlington brand has developed a strong collector market for their innovative designs, limited production and having accurate pocket watches. The fine movement is housed in the original gold fill case manufactured by the Philadelphia Watch Case Company with the gold fill warrantied for twenty years. The case is beautiful with no brassing or wear through. The back has a floral design with a Love Bird on the top. The cartouche on back is blank and still has not been personalized. The engraving on the case back is no longer as crisp yet it is still in excellent condition. This fine Burlington Pocket Watch has just been serviced and is an excellent timekeeper as designed.
