The three Studebaker Brothers out of South Bend, Indiana owned the Studebaker Automobile Company and were known for their innovative automobiles. They also owned the South Bend Watch Company and applied the same innovative approach to their pocket watches as with their automobiles. The South Bend Watch was very popular and considered a higher end offering in the day. A large collector market has developed for these fine pocket watches as with their automobiles. The Gentlemen’s Dress Pocket Watch of the Day was manufactured to the highest of standards and this South Bend Pocket Watch is an excellent example. The South Bend Grade 411 Movement is housed is this stunning 14K White Gold Fill Wadsworth Case and faced with this pristine Art Deco Motif Dial with the raised gold numerals and ornate Deco design.

This is another excellent example of the late 19th early 20th Century ingenuity that made the American Pocket Watch a worldwide standard for accuracy and beauty in timekeeping.

The raised gold design is set against a beautiful iridescent background (I tired to capture in the images) making for a truly stunning timepiece. This all-original South Bend Pocket Watch is faced with a beautiful Art Deco motif dial in pristine condition. We have the stylized Arabic numerals with the ornate Art Deco design in the raised gold finish. The raised gold Deco motif is set against a gold iridescent background, a stunning timepiece. These beautiful dials are rare being made of different metals they would tend to oxidize; this has been very well maintained. This fine dial is highlighted with the beautiful and ornate gold hands referred to as the Open Diamond Crossbar design. This South Bend Pocket Watch does come with an original South Bend box as shown. I am not sure if this is the original information card/box, at some point the jewel count was crossed out on the card, everything else is correct. The box and information card are period correct for this timepiece. The condition also suggest this pocket watch has spent most of it’s life boxed. This South Bend Pocket Watch shows beautifully and is sure to be appreciated for generations to come.

The Wadsworth Case Company has the reputation for the finest quality cases and this pristine 14K White Gold Fill Case is an excellent example. The size 12 Gentlemen’s Dress Pocket Watch of the day was a symbol of prestige and status and manufactured to the highest of standards. The Gentlemen’s size 12 Dress Pocket Watch measures 1 ¾ inches in diameter, making for a very comfortable carry. This fine case is beautifully engraved, with the engraving still crisp. The ornate bow is still firm and the fluting on the crown still crisp. The case is without dings, dents or personal engraving one might expect to find. This high of grade South Bend Pocket Watch is ready for daily wear or as a wonderful addition to any collection. The South Bend Grade 411 Movement is stem set and stem wound with classic antique damasking on the Nickel Silver plates. This Grade 411 is in excellent condition without rust, corrosion or reckless jeweler’s tool marks. The Grade 411 is a 17-jewel movement with a safety pinion, double roller, high-grade micro regulator, gold balance weights with raised gold jewel settings. The Grade 411 also has a gold center wheel and train, all designed for extreme accuracy. This South Bend 411 Movement has just been serviced and is an excellent timekeeper.
