Hamilton Grade 917 with Original Bakelite and Cardboard Box, Matching Serial Numbers
This vintage Hamilton Grade 917 Model 1 was produced in 1951 when gas was 19 cents a gallon, electricity was produced using nuclear power for the first time, and movie theaters began experimenting with 3-D movies. This pocket watch is in excellent condition and comes with its original Bakelite box and an outer cardboard box with matching serial numbers. The Bakelite box itself is of historical interest. Bakelite was the first plastic ever produced using synthetic components. Today, Bakelite products have become attractive collector's items for Bakelite's "retro" appeal. This Hamilton Grade 917's dial shows beautifully with late art deco period raised Arabic numerals highlighted by modern style gold-trimmed hands. The visual aesthetics of this watch are further enhanced by its size 10 movement and come together to reflect a timepiece of history reflecting the changing trends of the mid 20th century. Its open face movement features 17 jewels, a nickel finish, and adjusted to three positions. The case features a trim sleek design that would become the hallmark of American style on the threshold of the Space Age. This fine timepiece displays beautifully and would make an excellent addition to any collection or as a treasured family heirloom.
