Antique Lancaster Pocket Watch Railroad Grade New Era circa 1883

Folks we have another wonderful offing for your consideration; this antique Lancaster Watch Company railroad grade New Era pocket watch. The Lancaster Watch Co. produced watches from 1879 through 1886. This antique New Era movement has 7 jewels and is stem set and stem wound. The size 18 and measures 2 ¼ inches in diameter, the classic antique railroad pocket watch. The fine porcelain dial is highlighted with a wonderful Steam Locomotive and highlighted with the original beautifully heat treated blued Steel hands. The crystal on this pocket watch is an original Fish Eye crystal with a depression in the center, very nice. This antique New Era pocket watch was manufactured prior to a railroad standard being introduced at the request of the Department of the Interior in 1895. This was truly the scientific instrument of the day in 1883, on par with the smartphone of today.

This is an excellent example of the late 19th early 20th Century ingenuity that made the American pocket watch a worldwide standard for beauty and accuracy in timekeeping.

This  Lancaster Pocket Watch has just been cleaned, oiled and adjusted for accuracy. This entails a complete disassembly, all parts cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, and reassembled using the finest watch oil and gear grease.

The Lancaster Watch Co. produced watches from 1879 through 1886. This antique New Era movement has 7 jewels and is stem set and stem wound. The size 18 and measures 2 ¼ inches in diameter, the classic antique railroad pocket watch. The New Era pocket watch has antique shadow line damasking on the nickel silver plate movement. This is an early American pocket watch and interestingly does not have a serial number etched into the movement. The fine porcelain dial is highlighted with a wonderful Steam Locomotive and highlighted with the original beautifully heat treated blued Steel hands. The crystal on this pocket watch is an original Fish Eye crystal with a depression in the center, very nice.
