Folks we have a very special offering for your consideration with this pristine antique South Bend Pocket Watch circa 1908. The Gentlemen’s Dress Pocket Watch Pocket of the day was a symbol of prestige and status and manufactured to the highest of standards. We have wonderful example with this South Bend Grade 281 Movement, stunning porcelain dress dial, ornate Louis XIV gold hands and housed in this pristine Silverode Case. This antique Grade 218 Movement is lever set and stem wound and a size 16, the most popular sizes measuring 2 inch’s in diameter. The early Lever Set Size 16 Dress Pocket Watch was not common, later in the 1920’s the Stem Set Size 12 Dress Pocket Watch became popular and common. The total South Bend Grade 281 Movements had a production of only 12,400 in total from 1903 through 1909 and a very few received this fine dress dial. This all-original antique South Bend Pocket Watch is truly a rare find. I hope the pictures and extreme magnification helps tell the story of this truly fine South Bend Dress Pocket Watch of the day.

This antique South Bend Porcelain Dress Dial is truly stunning with the gold on porcelain finish. The fine dial is bright white porcelain with Black Arabic Numerals highlighted with a Gold Leaf treatment between each numeral and at every 5-minute marker around the outer circumference. Then we have a recessed sub chapter for the ornate matching second hand. This truly fine timepiece is highlighted with the original ornate Gold Fill Louis XIV Hands including the matching second hand. The 3 Studebaker Brothers owned and ran the South Bend Watch Company. As with their Studebaker Automobiles their pocket watches have also become popular with collectors both for quality and design. This South Bend Pocket Watch is a excellent example; it shows beautifully and is sure to be appreciated for generations to come.

This pristine South Bend Grade 281 Movement has 15 fine Ruby Jewels and is lever set and stem wound. The high-grade movement has the antique narrow Pin Stripe damasking highlighted with black lettering. This fine movement is in excellent condition without corrosion or reckless jeweler’s tool marks. The 281 Movement has a gold center wheel with flush screw gold jewel settings, steel escapement, micro regulator and gold balance weights all designed for added accuracy. Truly one the finest of the Gentlemen’s Dress Pocket Watches manufactured. The South Bend Watch Company was know for their high grade pocket watches. This South Bend Pocket Watch has just been serviced and is an excellent timekeeper ready for daily wear or as a wonderful addition to any collection.
