This was the first production year for the Elgin Grade 97 Model 1 Movement. The movement is in pristine condition without reckless jewelers tool marks or corrosion. Elgin produced 323,000 of this movement starting in 1885 and completing production in 1894. The first year of a “Railroad Standard” was 1894 so this would have been the service pocket watch of the day when manufactured. The Elgin Grade 97 Movement is referred to as a 7 Jewel Full Plate Movement, please keep in mind a 7 Jewel count was the standard in 1885. This movement is again Key Wound and Key Set and has a Gold Gilt finish, Safety Pinion, Quick Train and is again a size 18. This pocket watch design did provide for a very accurate pocket watch, truly the scientific instrument of the day. This fine Elgin Movement is housed in this popular Dauber Silverine Case. This Dauber Case is in excellent condition with only the most minor of pressure intent to the back, not of significance but I have to mention. We have a wonderful Antique Elgin Pocket Watch for your consideration. If you are looking for a historical, classic antique pocket watch this just could be it! What a wonderful heirloom timepiece.

This Elgin Dial is referred to as a Single Sunk Dial and is in excellent condition without flaws. This beautiful dial has the desired longer Elgin logo highlighted with classic Roman Numerals and the Railroad Track design around the outer circumference. Then we have the sunken sub chapter for the second hand. This Elgin Pocket Watch is a wonderful find in such fine condition. These fine dials are made using 2 Copper Plates soldered together and then baked with many layers of Silica giving the dial that deep rich Porcelain finish. This fine dial is highlighted with the original heat-treated Blued Steel Hands still in excellent condition. This fine Elgin Pocket Watch shows beautifully and sure to be appreciated for many generations to come.

This is another excellent example of the of the late 19th early 20th Century ingenuity that made the American Pocket Watch a worldwide standard for beauty and accuracy in timekeeping.
