The three Studebaker Brothers out of South Bend, Indiana owned the South Bend Watch Company. The South Bend Watch Co. was known for their high-grade pocket watches and as with they’re fine automobiles and a large collector market developed for these fine timepieces. The Grade 429 is a very popular high-grade 19-jewel movement, the size 12 pocket watch measures 1¾ inch in diameter. The Gentlemen’s Dress Pocket Watch of the Day was manufactured to the highest of standards and this South Bend is an excellent example. This South Bend 429 Movement is housed is this very popular and rare Green Gold Fill case, we have an excellent example in this Wadsworth Case Company case. This fine South Bend is faced with an Art Deco motif dress dial with a pin stripe design highlighted with the original ornate beautifully Blued Steel Open Diamond style hands.

This is another excellent example of the late 19th early 20th Century ingenuity that made the American Pocket Watch a worldwide standard for accuracy and beauty in timekeeping.

This fine South Bend Grade 429 Movement is housed a stunning Green Gold Fill Wadsworth Case Company case. The size 12 Gentlemen’s Dress Pocket Watch of the day was a symbol of prestige and status and not only the movement but also the pocket watch cases were manufactured to the highest of standards. We have an excellent example in this Art Deco motif case. The Wadsworth Case Company had the finest reputation for quality cases and this pristine Green GF Case is an excellent example. This finest of cases has beautiful engraving around the outside perimeter with an ornate bow still firm and the original crow with the fluting still strong. The case back is without dings, dents or scratches one might expect to find. This fine Wadsworth Watch Case has the desired single hinged case; the case back opens out for easy inspection. This high grade Art Deco South Bend Pocket Watch is ready for daily wear or as a wonderful addition to any collection.

The South Bend Grade 429 Movement is stem set and stem wound and in pristine condition with the classic Tuxedo Stripe damasking on the Nickel Silver plates. This 429 is without rust, corrosion or reckless jeweler’s tool marks. The high-grade 429 has a 19-jewel movement and is adjusted to 4 positions and temperature with a double roller. This South Bend Movement also has a high-grade micro regulator, gold balance weights, raised and flush solid gold jewel settings, a gold center wheel and train with a steel escapement, all designed for extreme accuracy. This fine South Bend has just been serviced and is an excellent timekeeper.

This South Bend Dial is a metal dial referred to as single sunk with the popular Pin Stripe design. We have the South Bend stylized Arabic numerals around the outer circumference, then a recessed sub register for the second hand. This dial does show some patina commiserate with age, we call character. This fine dial is highlighted with the classic beautifully Blued Steel Open Diamond Crossbar Hands with the matching Second Hand, all original and in excellent condition. This timepiece shows beautifully and sure to be appreciated for generations to come.
