The first customized Buck knife produced by David Yellowhorse, Navaho Artist, is the Buck Knife Model 112 - The Mustang. This was first produced for David's father's trading post and then David entered into an agreement to work with Buck Knives customizing their different models, always focusing on the Model 112. The Model 112 has Buck Knife’s famous Lock Back design with a 3 inch Mirror Polish 440HC Stainless Steel Blade. The Buck Knife Model 112 measures 4 ¼ inches in length when closed and 7 inches in length when opened.

The Mustang is truly a beautifully crafted work or art by David Yellowhorse. The early models have the four dots on the blade tang stamp and dates the knives from 1981 through 1986 and this was made prior to the agreement with Buck Knives, which more commonly have the Buck Custom logo on the blade tang stamp and a 420HC Stainless Steel Blade. Fewer of these earlier models with the 4-dot blade tang stamp were manufactured and makes for a more collectable knife.

The handles are made with a process called channel inlay using blue turquoise, black jet, red coral and desert ironwood. The brass Mustang is intricately carved on both sides of the handle. The brass bolsters have a grain pattern carved into the four bolsters, also on the bottom rear brass bolster on these earlier pieces you have “by David Yellowhorse”, I did not photograph but can if needed. This was one of David's early custom knives and is in close to mint condition if not mint with no flaws I can see. The Custom Buck Knife comes in the original solid Cherry Hardwood Display Case that has the engraved brass plate with the name and description and is lined with red velvet. I am also including one of the Buck Display Stands as an option for displaying this custom Buck Knife. I am not a knife expert but a collector and want to share some of the fine collectables we enjoy and are fortunate enough to have crossed our path.
