This Waltham is a size 18 and measures 2 ¼ inches in diameter, a substantial pocket watch and the most popular size pocket watch at the turn of the century. This Gentlemen’s Dress Pocket Watch of the day was a symbol of prestige and status and manufactured to the highest of standards and this is an excellent example with this wonderful configuration. The pristine Waltham Two-Tone P.S. Bartlett Movement, Waltham Double Sunk Dial, Crescent Case Company Sterling Silver Case and highlighted with the original heat-treated Blued Steel Hands. This fine Waltham P.S. Bartlett is housed in the original Sterling Silver Case manufactured by the Crescent Watch Case Company. This case is referred to as a ‘Swing Out” case in that there is no separate back cover. The movement is set into a bezel that swings out from the case as opposed to having a back that would screw off. So only the front bezel screws off. The function is to protect the pocket watch from being opened easily and something happening by accident to harm the movement. These cases were very popular as Railroad Cases for being so safe and durable. This fine Waltham is faced with double sunk dial that is in excellent condition and referred to as a “Breguet Dial” with the black stylized Arabic numerals against the bright white background. This double sunk dial is made using three Copper Plates soldiered together, and then baked with many layers of Silica giving the dial the deep rich porcelain finish. This fine dial is highlighted with the original and delicate and beautifully blued heat-treated Spade Steel hands. This fine Waltham Pocket Watch shows beautifully and is sure to be appreciated for generations to come.

The Waltham Pocket Watch Grade P.S. Bartlett and is one of the most popular and collected of all pocket watches manufactured. This P.S. Bartlett has the desired Two-Tone 17 Jewel Movement and when first introduce it had one more jewel in the configuration than the competition making for another advancement in jewel count. Few railroads would have rejected this as a “Railroad Grade Pocket Watch” when first introduced in 1901. This is referred to as a full plate Nickel Silver Movement and is stem set and stem wound an advancement from the lever set movement when introduced. This P.S. Bartlett also has 17 Ruby Jewels and is adjusted to positions and temperature with flush gold jewel settings with a single roller. This highest of grade pocket watches also has a high-grade micro regulator, gold balance weights, gold center wheel and train with a steel escapement all designed for an incredibly accurate timepiece. This Waltham Pocket Watch has just been serviced and is an excellent timekeeper as designed.
