Ball who set the standard for “Railroad Timekeeping” at the request of the U.S Department of the Interior in 1891. This came about after a disastrous train accident between two mail trains with extensive loss of life and property all due to a faulty timepiece. Webb C. Ball did not produce any pocket watches himself; rather he worked with the major watch companies of the day to produce these finest of the Railroad Grade Pocket Watches manufactured. This Ball Waltham Railroad Standard Pocket Watch is again one of the highest grade Railroad Pocket Watches manufactured. Ball later went on to become Vice President of the Hamilton Watch Company then went on to become the Head Timekeeper for all the major railroads. This Ball Waltham Railroad Standard Pocket Watch is again one of the highest grade Railroad Pocket Watches manufactured. This Ball Waltham appears to have spent many years in service on the rails and has been well maintained. Hopefully the many pictures and extreme magnification helps tell the story of this truly fine Ball Waltham Railroad Pocket Watch.

This Ball Waltham Model 1899 was manufactured to the highest standards and is called “The Official Railroad Standard” with the gold RR seal on the movement, highly desired and not on most Ball movements. This Railroad Standard is a size 16, which measures 2 inches in diameter the most popular of sizes. This fine extra fine movement is a 19 jewel movement with Sapphire pallet jewels and Diamond end stones for the center and roller jewels, the finest quality. This fine Ball Waltham Grade 1899 has the patented Ball circular damasking, and is in excellent condition. The fine movement has a double roller, adjusted to heat cold with a high-grade micro regulator. The movement also has gold balance weights, raised gold jewel settings, gold center wheel and train and is lever set and stem wound. This is an extremely rare Ball Waltham Railroad Standard Model 1899 circa 1905; one of the finest and most desired of Railroad Pocket Watches manufactured.

This Ball Waltham Pocket Watch is housed in a beautiful Keystone Case Company J Boss Model 14K gold-filled Railroad Case. This fine Railroad Case is in excellent condition with only the most minor of wear on the back cover, no dings or dents. Then, this fine Ball Waltham is faced with the one of the most collected of railroad dials; this Ball Single Sunk Railroad Dial has a patented Ball Waltham Arabic font with the Ball Official RR Standard Logo. This Ball patented dial is the height of functionality, a beautiful dial with minor crazing though the dial, the only defect I can find. This rare dial is highlighted with Blued Steel Spade / Whip Railroad Standard hands. This extremely high-grade Ball Waltham Railroad Pocket Watch is again an excellent timepiece and a highly collected Railroad Pocket Watch.

This is another excellent example of the late 18th early 19th Century ingenuity that made the American Pocket Watch a worldwide standard for accuracy and beauty in timekeeping.
